Whereas the original Alpha Kappa Alpha ivy has 3 geni, the world contains a number of ivy geni, these ivy have been used in a number of ways. Some of these customs hail from but are not limited to the cultural customs of the Egyptian, Greek, Roman, European, Christian, Pagan ceremonies and faiths.

 These  Alpha Kappa Alpha knew of the ivy’s significance and used it for several reasons, one of which was to show fidelity and strength.
