Annye S. Hill was an intelligent young woman who spearheaded a series of firsts for black women all over the country.
Annye's family were proprietors and had a great entrepreneurial spirit. These qualities inspired Hill to become a distinguished educator, social worker, and pioneer in the Atlanta community. Throughout her career, she broke barriers and made significant contributions to her community, leaving behind a powerful legacy of service and leadership. She was married to Mr. J Hill.
A graduate of Atlanta University, Annye Ruth’s professional journey was defined by a deep commitment to education and social work. She made history as the first woman to serve as a manager with the Atlanta Housing Authority, a role in which she managed several significant residential communities, including Henry Grady Homes, the Carver Community, and John Hope Homes. Her work in this capacity shaped the lives of many families and set a high standard for excellence in public service.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Annye Ruth was a passionate advocate for her community. She generously gave her time and talents, serving on the boards of the Gate City Day Nursery, the Clark Atlanta University Alumni Association, and the Metropolitan Atlanta Girls Club. Her commitment to service extended to her church, where she was Chair Emeritus of the Deaconess Board at First Congregational Church.
Annye's legacy as a dedicated leader, community servant, and trailblazer continues to inspire those who had the privilege of working with her and learning from her example. She was not only a devoted aunt and sister but also a shining example of integrity, compassion, and selfless service.
